Or

Or do they say, “He is a poet, we await some misfortune to befall him”?

52:30Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time?

Is it their minds that urge them to this, or are they a people gone astray?

52:32Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk?

Were they created from nothing? Or are they their own creators?

52:35Or were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators?

Or did they create the heavens and the earth? No, they are not certain.

52:36Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing!

Or do they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or are they in control?

52:37Or do they own the treasures of thy Lord? Or have they been given charge (thereof)?

Or do they have a ladder to climb up and listen? Then let their listener bring a clear proof.

52:38Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest!

Or do you ask them for a payment, so they are burdened by debt?

52:40Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt?

Or do they have knowledge of the unseen, which they write down?

52:41Or possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down?

Or do they intend a scheme? But those who disbelieve are themselves ensnared.

52:42Or seek they to ensnare (the messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared!

Even if they saw pieces of the sky falling, they would say, “Clouds heaped up!”

52:44And if they were to see a fragment of the heaven falling, they would say: A heap of clouds.
