Bedouins full verses back to top

The desert Arabs are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, least likely to understand the limits of what Allah has revealed to His Messenger.

Some desert Arabs consider what they spend as a burden and wait for misfortune to strike you.

Among the desert Arabs around you are hypocrites, and so are some among the people of Medina. They persist in hypocrisy, you do not know them, but We do.

The Bedouins said, “We believe.” Say: You have not yet believed. Rather, say, “We have submitted,” for faith has not yet entered your hearts.

Say: Are you teaching Allah about your faith, when Allah knows all that is in the heavens and the earth?

The Byzantines full verses back to top

The Romans have been defeated

In a nearby land. But after their defeat, they will triumph

Within a few years. The matter belongs to Allah, before and after. And on that day, the believers will rejoice

In Allah’s victory. He grants triumph to whom He wills.

Fighting full verses back to top

It was not you who killed them, but Allah. And when you struck, it was not you who struck, but Allah, so that He may grant the believers a great victory.

This is how Allah undermines the schemes of the disbelievers.

If you sought judgment, then judgment has come to you. If you desist, it is better for you. But if you return to battle, We will return, and your forces, no matter how great, will not benefit you. Allah is with the believers.

Perhaps Allah will bring affection between you and those you now consider enemies.

Allah does not forbid you from being kind and just to those who did not fight you over religion or expel you from your homes from dealing kindly and justly with them. Allah loves those who act justly.

But Allah forbids you from taking as allies those who fought you over religion, expelled you, or supported your expulsion. Whoever takes them as allies, they are the wrongdoers.

Tribe of Saba full verses back to top

There was indeed a sign for the people of Sheba in their homeland: two gardens, one to the right and one to the left. “Eat from your Lord’s provision and give thanks, a good land and a forgiving Lord.”

But they turned away, so We sent upon them a flood from the dam, and replaced their gardens with ones bearing bitter fruit, tamarisks, and a few sparse lote trees.

Thus, We repaid them for their ingratitude. Do We repay any but the ungrateful?

We placed between them and the towns We had blessed, well-known settlements, and We set measured stages between them: “Travel safely by night and day.”

But they said, “Our Lord, make the distances between our journeys longer,” and they wronged themselves. So We made them stories of the past and scattered them completely. Surely in this are signs for every steadfast, grateful heart.

Pharaoh and Others full verses back to top

And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the overturned cities, they all committed grave sin.

They defied the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with an overwhelming grip.

Pharaoh full verses back to top

But Pharaoh defied the messenger, so We seized him with a crushing grip.

So how will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, against a Day that will turn children grey?

The sky will split apart from its burden. That promise is bound to be fulfilled.

Criminals full verses back to top

Did We not destroy the earlier generations?

Then We followed them with later ones.

This is how We deal with the guilty.

Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth.

We sent a messenger to every nation: “Worship Allah and avoid false gods.” Some were guided, while others deserved misguidance. So, travel the earth and see the fate of the deniers.

Say, “Travel the earth and observe the fate of those who denied the truth.”

Companions of the Trench full verses back to top

Doomed are the makers of the trench

The fire fed with fuel

As they sat beside it

Watching what they did to the believers.

They resented them for nothing, except that they believed in Allah, the Almighty, the Praiseworthy

Companions of the Elephant full verses back to top

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the people of the elephant?

Did He not foil their plans?

He sent against them flocks of birds

Pelting them with stones of baked clay

Leaving them like devoured stalks.

Day of Conquest full verses back to top

If you were to see how We send rain upon the barren earth, reviving it, surely, He will bring the dead to life. He has power over all things.

But they say, “When will this judgment come, if you are truthful?”

Say, “On the Day of Judgment, belief will not benefit the disbelievers, nor will they be granted reprieve.”

So, turn away from them and wait, surely, they too are waiting.

Various Peoples full verses back to top

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad

The people of Iram, with towering pillars

The likes of which were never built in the land?

And Thamud, who carved their dwellings into the valley?

And Pharaoh, lord of mighty structures?

They all transgressed in the lands

Spreading corruption far and wide.

So your Lord unleashed upon them a scourge of punishment.

Indeed, your Lord is ever watchful.

As for man, when his Lord tests him, honouring him and granting him ease, he says, “My Lord has honoured me.”

But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says, “My Lord has humiliated me.”

No! You do not honour the orphan

Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor.

You greedily consume inheritance

And love wealth with an obsessive love.
