Unaware full verses back to top
Yet man transgresses
Seeing himself as self-sufficient.
But to your Lord is the return.
Have you seen the one who prevents
A servant when he prays?
Do you think he is rightly guided
Or calls to righteousness?
Do you see how he denies and turns away?
Does he not know that Allah sees?
No! If he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock
A lying, sinful forelock!
Let him call his supporters
We will summon the guardians.
No! Do not obey him. Bow down and draw near.
When they are told, “Bow before the Most Merciful,” they say, “What is the Most Merciful? Should we bow to what you command?” And it only increases their defiance.
Not Succeed full verses back to top
Do not Grieve full verses back to top
Say, “Travel the earth and see the fate of the guilty.”
But do not grieve over them, nor be distressed by their schemes.
They say, “When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?”
Say, “Perhaps some of what you seek to hasten is already near.”
Do not strain your eyes toward what We have given some of them to enjoy, nor grieve over them. Lower your wing to the believers.
Sealed Heart full verses back to top
Some among them listen to you, but We have placed veils over their hearts and deafness in their ears, so they cannot comprehend. Even if they saw every sign, they would still not believe.
Who is more unjust than one who is reminded of his Lord’s signs but turns away, forgetting what his hands have done? We have placed veils over their hearts so they cannot understand, and deafness in their ears. Even if you call them to guidance, they will never be guided.
"Those who dispute Allah’s signs without proof, this is deeply hateful to Allah and the believers. Thus, Allah seals the hearts of every arrogant tyrant."
Those who dispute Allah’s signs without proof have arrogance in their hearts. So seek shelter in Allah, for He alone hears all, sees all.
Allah has sealed their hearts and ears, and a veil covers their sight;
We cover their hearts so they cannot understand it, and We make their ears deaf. When you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn away in disgust.
You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear your call when they turn away.
Your Allah is One. But those who deny the Hereafter, their hearts reject, and they are arrogant.
Wherever you may be, death will reach you, even if you are in fortified towers. When good comes to them, they say, ‘This is from Allah,’ but when harm befalls them, they say, ‘This is from you.’ Say, ‘All things come from Allah.’ What is wrong with these people that they barely understand anything?
Have they not travelled the land and had hearts to reason with, or ears to hear with? It is not the eyes that go blind, but the hearts within the chests.
Their hearts harbour a disease, and Allah increases their affliction.
Or do those with sickness in their hearts think Allah will not expose their malice?
But as for those with sickness in their hearts, it only adds to their defilement, and they die as disbelievers.
Do they not see that they are tested once or twice every year? Yet they neither repent nor take heed.
Had We willed, We could have shown them to you, and you would know them by their marks. But you will surely know them by their tone of speech. Allah knows your deeds.
Most of the earlier generations were like that.
Thus, We let disbelief take root in the hearts of the guilty.
Thus, Allah seals the hearts of those who do not know.
They do not believe in it, though the fate of earlier nations has already passed.
Even if We opened for them a gateway to the heavens, allowing them to ascend continuously
They would still say, “Our eyes are hallucinating; we are bewitched.”
Do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance, who follows his desires, and whose affairs are in ruin.
Say, “Whoever is in error, let the Most Merciful extend his time until, when they see what they were promised, either punishment or the Hour, they will know who is in the worse position and weaker in support.”
Have you seen the one who rejects Our signs and says, “I will surely be given wealth and children”?
Let not the disbelievers think that their extended time is good for them; it only increases their burden.
And when We told you, “Your Lord encompasses all people,” We made the vision We showed you a trial for them, as well as the cursed tree in the Quran. We warn them, but it only increases their defiance.
They say, “Our hearts are veiled from what you call us to, our ears are deaf, and between us and you is a barrier, so do as you will, and we shall do as we will.”
Deaf, Dumb, and Blind full verses back to top
Say, “I warn you only by revelation.” But the deaf do not hear the call when warned.
Can you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind and those lost in clear error?
Even if We take you away, We will still take vengeance upon them.
But for those who disbelieve, there is deafness in their ears, and it is obscured from them. They are called from a distant place.”
Do not be like those who say, “We hear,” but do not truly listen.
Their punishment will be doubled, for they could neither hear nor see.
The worst of creatures in Allah’s sight are the deaf and dumb, those who do not use reason.
Had Allah found any good in them, He would have made them hear. But even if He made them hear, they would still turn away in defiance.
Some among them listen to you, but can you make the deaf hear when they do not understand?
Others look at you, but can you guide the blind when they refuse to see?
Your Lord will fully repay each person for their deeds; He is aware of all they do.
The example of these two groups is like the blind and deaf compared to those who see and hear. Are they equal? Will you not reflect?
Do those who commit evil think We will make them equal to those who believe and do good, equal in life and in death? How wrong is their judgment!
You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear your call when they turn away.
Deaf, mute, and blind, they will never return to the truth.
Pointless to Warn full verses back to top
Do the disbelievers not see that the heavens and the earth were once joined, and We split them apart? And We made every living thing from water, will they not believe?
If you call them to guidance, they do not follow you. It is the same whether you call them or remain silent.
Those you invoke besides Allah are servants like you, so call upon them and let them respond, if you are truthful.
Even if We had mercy on them and removed their hardship, they would still persist in their rebellion, wandering blindly.
If you call them to guidance, they do not hear. You see them looking at you, but they do not perceive.
We turn their hearts and eyes away, just as they refused to believe in the first place, leaving them to wander blindly in their defiance.
Have you considered, if We let them enjoy life for years
Then the punishment comes upon them
What good will their past enjoyment do them?
For those who respond to their Lord is the best reward. But those who do not respond, if they possessed all the treasures of the earth, they would offer them as ransom. For them is a severe reckoning
Have they not considered the wonders of the heavens and the earth, and all that Allah has created? Perhaps their end is near, so in what message will they believe after this?
As for those who reject faith, it makes no difference whether you warn them or not, they will never believe.
When hardship touches a person, they call upon Us, lying down, sitting, or standing. But when We remove their hardship, they continue as if they had never called upon Us for relief. This is how the deeds of the transgressors seem fair to them.
He is the One who enables you to travel across land and sea. When you sail with a favourable wind, rejoicing in it, suddenly a storm overtakes you, and waves engulf you from all sides. You call upon Allah in sincere devotion, saying, “If You save us, we will surely be grateful.”
When We grant blessings to man, he turns away and distances himself, but when hardship touches him, he is full of despair.
Allah made the night for you to rest and the day to see clearly. Indeed, Allah is full of bounty, but most people are ungrateful.
If We grant a person mercy and then withdraw it, they become desperate and ungrateful.
But if We grant them prosperity after hardship, they say, “Troubles have left me,” and they become boastful and proud.
