Muhammad and the Quran

Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, “Bring your proof. This is the message of those with me and those before me.” But most of them do not know the truth, so they turn away.

These are Allah’s signs, which We recite to you in truth. You are indeed one of the messengers.

Just as We sent among you a messenger from your own people, reciting Our revelations, purifying you, teaching you the Book and wisdom, and instructing you in what you did not know.

Allah has granted His favour to the believers when He sent them a messenger from among themselves—reciting His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom, though they were previously in clear error.

And it is foretold in the scriptures of earlier peoples.

Then He revealed to His servant what He revealed.

Thus, We inspired you with a revelation by Our command.

Thus, We narrate to you stories from the past. We have given you a reminder from Us.

And indeed, you are receiving the Qur’an from the One.

Follow what is revealed to you

Then We passed the Book to those We chose among Our servants. Some wrong themselves, some are moderate, and some race ahead in good deeds by Allah’s permission. That is the great favour.

This Quran has been revealed to me so that I may warn you and whomever it reaches.

Yet they say, “He made it up.” No, it is the truth from your Lord, sent to warn a people who had no warner before you, so they may be guided.

Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion to His servant, so that he may be a warner to the world.

The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down

Upon your heart, so that you may be one of the warners.

Is it surprising to people that We sent revelation to a man among them, saying, “Warn humanity and give good news to the believers that they stand firm with their Lord”?

You did not know what the Book was, nor faith, but We made it a light by which We guide whomever We will among Our servants.

We did not teach him poetry, nor does it suit him. This is only a Reminder and a clear Qur’an.

To warn whoever is truly alive, and to prove the word against the disbelievers.

You did not recite any scripture before this, nor did you write it with your hand; otherwise, the sceptics would have doubted.

O Messenger! Convey all that has been revealed to you from your Lord. If you do not, then you have not fulfilled your mission. Allah will protect you from the people.

Exalted is Allah, the True King! Do not rush in reciting the Quran before its revelation is completed, but say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

It is for Us to gather it and recite it.

Then it is for Us to explain it clearly.

But no! I swear by what you see.

And what you do not see.

This is truly the word of a noble messenger.

We have revealed the Book to you with truth so that you may judge between people as Allah has shown you.

He who imposed the Qur’an upon you will surely bring you to the best destination. Say, “My Lord knows best who brings guidance and who is clearly astray.”

You never expected that the Book would be delivered to you, it is only a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an ally to the disbelievers.

And never let them turn you away from Allah’s signs after they have been revealed to you. Call upon your Lord, and never be among the polytheists.

We have revealed the Book to you in truth, confirming what came before and safeguarding it. So, judge among them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their desires, straying from the truth. To each of you, We have given a path and a way.

We have revealed the Book to you only to clarify their disputes, as guidance and mercy for those who believe.

If not for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you, a group among them would have led you astray. But they only mislead themselves, and they cannot harm you. Allah has revealed the Book and wisdom to you and taught you what you did not know. His favour upon you is immense.

Recite what has been revealed to you from your Lord’s Book.

Or a little more, and recite the Quran with measured rhythm.

We are about to place upon you a weighty word.

Truly, night prayer leaves a deeper imprint and is more upright in speech.

But whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has been made clear and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will leave them to their chosen path and cast them into Hell, what a miserable destination!

Those who disbelieve and block others from Allah’s path and oppose the Messenger after guidance has become clear to them, they will not harm Allah in the least, and He will render their deeds void.

This is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. Whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, Allah is severe in punishment.

This is a Book revealed to you, let there be no unease in your heart because of it, so that you may warn and remind the believers.

If We willed, We could take away what We revealed to you, and then you would find no protector against Us.

But it is only by your Lord’s mercy that it remains. His favour upon you is truly great.

We know that their words grieve you, but it is not you they reject; it is Allah’s signs that the wrongdoers deny.

We did not send down the Quran to burden you.

But as a reminder for those who are mindful.

When those who believe in Our signs come to you, say, “Peace be upon you.
