Enjoyment in this world full verses back to top

Know that this worldly life is but play, amusement, adornment, boasting among yourselves, and rivalry in wealth and children. It is like rain that delights the farmer, then dries and withers, turning to dust. In the Hereafter, there is severe punishment or forgiveness and pleasure from Allah. This life is nothing but a fleeting illusion.

Is the one who seeks Allah’s pleasure like the one who incurs His wrath? Their final home is Hell.

Those who prefer this fleeting life over the Hereafter, who turn others away from Allah’s path and seek to distort it, these are far astray.

But those who disbelieve, who live only for pleasure and eat like cattle, the Fire will be their home.

They may enjoy this world briefly, but then they will return to Us

That is because they preferred this worldly life over the Hereafter.

Say, "Enjoy your disbelief for a little while

Those who do not expect to meet Us, who are content with this worldly life and feel secure in it, and those who neglect Our signs.

And they say, “Our Lord, hasten our fate before the Day of Reckoning!”

They ask you to hasten the punishment, but Allah never breaks His promise. A day with your Lord is like a thousand years of what you count.

Whoever desires this fleeting life, We hasten for him what We will, then consign him to Hell.

Do you feel secure that He will not cause the land to swallow you or send a storm upon you?

On the Day when those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire: “You wasted your good things in your worldly life and enjoyed them. So today you are repaid with the punishment of humiliation for your arrogance on earth without right, and for your defiance.”

Is one whom We promised a good reward, which he will attain, like one whom We granted enjoyment in this life, but who will be brought to judgment on the Day of Resurrection?

Allah punishes whom He wills

Indeed, those who persecute believing men and women, and do not repent, for them is the torment of Hell, and the torment of burning.

To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. He will repay the evildoers for what they’ve done, and reward the doers of good with the best.

Then they will be hurled into it, they and the misguided

So, leave them until they meet their Day, when they will be thunderstruck.

But if you turn away, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful day.”

Our punishment cannot be repelled from those who persist in wrongdoing."

No! We will record what he says and extend his punishment.

If We had willed, We could have blinded them, then even if they raced for the path, how could they see?

And if We had willed, We could have frozen them in place, so they could neither move forward nor turn back.

Whomever We grant long life, We reverse in nature. Will they not reflect?

Punishment Deferred full verses back to top

Others await Allah’s decree, whether He will punish them or turn to them in mercy.

We will make them taste a lesser punishment before the greater one, so they may return.

Punished in this World and the Hereafter full verses back to top

As for those who disbelieve, I will punish them severely in this world and the Hereafter.

Allah made them taste disgrace in this life, but the punishment of the Hereafter is far worse, if only they knew.

Those who insult Allah and His Messenger are cursed in this life and the next.

Those who slander chaste, unaware, believing women are cursed in this world and the next.

And We pursued them with a curse in this world, and on the Day of Judgment, they will be among the despised.

They were pursued by a curse in this world, and on the Day of Judgment. What a terrible fate!

Had Allah not decreed exile for them, He would have punished them in this world. And in the Hereafter, they will face the Fire.

Whoever desires the harvest of the Hereafter, We shall grant him some of it, but he will have no share in the Hereafter.
