Jesus' Birth

And mention in the Book Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a secluded place in the east.

19:16And make mention of Mary in the Scripture, when she had withdrawn from her people to a chamber looking East,

She screened herself away from them, and We sent to her Our Spirit, who appeared to her as a perfect man.

19:17And had chosen seclusion from them. Then We sent unto her Our Spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a perfect man.

She said, “I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, if you are righteous.”

19:18She said: Lo! I seek refuge in the Beneficent One from thee, if thou art Allah-fearing.

He said, “I am only a messenger from your Lord, sent to grant you a pure son.”

19:19He said: I am only a messenger of thy Lord, that I may bestow on thee a faultless son.

She said, “How can I have a son when no man has touched me, and I have never been unchaste?”

19:20She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste?

He said, “Thus it will be. Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for humanity and a mercy from Us. It is a matter already decreed.’”

19:21He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me. And (it will be) that We may make of him a revelation for mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is a thing ordained.

And remember the one who guarded her soul, we breathed into her of Our spirit, and made her and her son a sign, a wonder for all the worlds.

21:91And she who was chaste, therefor We breathed into her (something) of Our Spirit and made her and her son a token for (all) peoples.

And Mary, daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity. We breathed into her from Our spirit, and she affirmed the truth of her Lord’s words and His scriptures. She was among the devout.

66:12And Mary, daughter of 'Imran, whose body was chaste, therefor We breathed therein something of Our Spirit. And she put faith in the words of her Lord and His scriptures, and was of the obedient.

So, she conceived him and withdrew with him to a remote place.

19:22And she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a far place.

The pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, “I wish I had died before this and been completely forgotten.”

19:23And the pangs of childbirth drove her unto the trunk of the palm-tree. She said: Oh, would that I had died ere this and had become a thing of naught, forgotten!

Then he called to her from beneath her, “Do not grieve; your Lord has placed a stream beneath you.”

19:24Then (one) cried unto her from below her, saying: Grieve not! Thy Lord hath placed a rivulet beneath thee,

“And shake the trunk of the palm tree toward you; it will drop fresh dates for you.”

19:25And shake the trunk of the palm-tree toward thee, thou wilt cause ripe dates to fall upon thee.

“So eat, drink, and be comforted. And if you see anyone, say, ‘I have vowed a fast to the Most Merciful, so I will not speak to any human today.’”

19:26So eat and drink and be consoled. And if thou meetest any mortal, say: Lo! I have vowed a fast unto the Beneficent, and may not speak this day to any mortal.
