Jonah

And Jonah was truly among the messengers.

And Jonah, when he left in anger, thinking We would not constrain him.

When he fled to the laden ship

He drew lots and was among the losers.

Then the great fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy.

So be patient for your Lord’s decision, and do not be like the companion of the fish when he cried out in distress.

But he called out in the darkness, “There is no Allah but You! Glory be to You! I have been among the wrongdoers.”

Had his Lord’s favour not reached him, he would have been cast out, blamed, and broken.

Had he not been among those who glorify Allah

He would have remained in its belly until the Day of Resurrection.

But We cast him out onto the shore, sick and exhausted.

So, We answered him and saved him from distress, thus We rescue the believers.

And We caused a gourd plant to grow over him.

Then We sent him to a hundred thousand, or more.

They believed, so We allowed them enjoyment for a time.

But his Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous.

If only there had been a city that believed and benefited from its faith, except for the people of Jonah. When they believed, We removed their punishment and granted them enjoyment for a time.
