Sent full verses back to top

To the people of ‘Ad, We sent their brother Hud. He said, “O my people, worship Allah, you have no Allah but Him. You are only inventing falsehoods.”

Warning full verses back to top

And be conscious of the One who has provided you with what you know

He has given you livestock, children

Gardens and flowing springs.

I ask no payment from you; my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds.

Do you build monuments on every high place, seeking vanity?

And construct fortresses as if you will live forever?

And when you strike, you strike ruthlessly?

“O my people, seek forgiveness from your Lord and turn to Him in repentance. He will send rain upon you abundantly and increase your strength. Do not turn away as sinners.”

Rejected full verses back to top

The elite among his people who disbelieved said: We see you as a fool, and we think you are a liar.

Their messengers came to them from all directions, saying, “Worship none but Allah.” But they said, “Had our Lord willed, He would have sent down angels. We reject what you have been sent with.”

They said, “O Hud, you have brought us no clear proof, and we will not abandon our gods based on your word. We do not believe in you.”

“We only say that some of our gods have afflicted you with madness.”

Response full verses back to top

He said, “I call Allah as my witness, and you too bear witness, that I am free from what you associate with Him.”

“So, plot against me, all of you, and do not delay.”

“I place my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord. No creature moves except by His command. My Lord is on the straight path.”

“If you turn away, I have already conveyed to you what I was sent with. My Lord will replace you with another people, and you cannot harm Him. My Lord is the Guardian over all things.”

I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day.”

He said: O my people, I am no fool, I am a messenger from the Lord of all worlds.

I deliver to you the messages of my Lord, and I am a trustworthy adviser to you.

Do you marvel that a reminder has come to you from your Lord through a man from among you, to warn you? Remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you greatly in stature. So, remember the favours of Allah, that you may prosper.

Rejected full verses back to top

They said, “It is all the same to us, whether you warn or do not warn.

They said, “Have you come to tell us to worship Allah alone and abandon what our ancestors worshipped? Then bring upon us what you threaten us with, if you are truthful.”

And we will not be punished.”

Response full verses back to top

He said, “You are already doomed by your Lord’s wrath and anger. Do you argue with me over names you and your ancestors invented, for which Allah sent no authority? Then wait, I too am waiting.”

Hud Saved full verses back to top

So, We saved him and those with him by Our mercy, and We uprooted those who rejected Our signs. They were not believers.

Punishment full verses back to top

As for Ad, they grew arrogant upon the earth, defying justice, and said, “Who is mightier than us?” Did they not see that Allah, who created them, is mightier than they? Yet they continued to deny Our signs.

Such was Ad, they rejected their Lord’s signs, disobeyed His messengers, and followed the command of every tyrant.

Then, when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, “This is a cloud bringing us rain.” No, it is what you sought to hasten: a wind with painful punishment

So, We unleashed upon them a furious wind for days of misfortune, making them taste the disgrace of this world. But the punishment of the Hereafter is far worse, and they will not be saved.

Plucking people as if they were uprooted palm trunks.

They were pursued by a curse in this world and will be on the Day of Judgment. Indeed, ‘Ad denied their Lord, so away with ‘Ad, the people of Hud! and We destroyed them. Surely in this is a sign, but most of them do not believe.

And Ad and Thamud, it became clear to you from their ruins how We dealt with them. Satan made their deeds seem appealing, diverting them from the path, though they were capable of seeing.

To each, We gave warnings, and then We destroyed them utterly.

So how severe was My punishment and warning!

“Remember how He made you successors after ‘Ad and settled you in the land, building palaces in its plains and carving homes into its mountains. So remember Allah’s blessings, and do not spread corruption.”
